Airbrushing camouflage is very easy to do. I usually do green camouflage. I start out with a white cake and than airbrush it a light shade of green. Next, I airbrush a medium shades of green ink spots, than brown ink spots in airbrush than black spots to the cake. Finally if needed, I go over the entire cake in green again to make the cake just a little bit dark.

Have Cake, Will Travel- Tv Show
So I got all excited that a new cake show was coming on especially since Ashley Vicos was the star. I just loved her work on competition shows and I even met her at a trade show and she seemed so sweet and skilled. When I sat down to look at this show, I was in disbelief how awful this show actually was. I mean come on, probably more than half of all cake decorators can do the stuff she is out there doing. Maybe its not her fault, maybe it’s the shows fault for seeming too scripted and planned out! I have not and will not be watching again.
Tie dyed Fondant
Tie dyed fondant is a bit tricky. No two pieces will ever come out the same. The fondant is more marbleized than Tie dyed. I suggest getting a few colors of fondant you would like to use and placing them side by side. Roll the fondant in a ball, cut that ball in half once or twice and place it side by side again. Now roll the fondant in a ball again, than roll the fondant flat to the thickness that you need.
Airbrushing Tie Dye on Buttercream
Airbrushing cakes is one of the easiest ways to decorate. To successfully get the look of Tie dye on buttercream,I suggest first putting your cake on a turntable and having your icing as smooth as possible. Now choose the colors you plan on airbrushing with and start off with the lightest color first. I always start with yellow. I make a thin w pattern in a circular (swirl) motion around my cake with the yellow, once I complete this I start with my next color leaving a tiny bit of white in between the yellow and the color I am using. I continue this until I use all of the colors I planned to and my cake is completely covered in Tye dye. It is okay if your colors blended together not all Tye dye is the same. You can also use white airbrush to lighten up areas where you would like it to be a little lighter. My cakes are usually bright tie dyes as I recommend against pastels because the effect does not come out the same.
Baby Shower Surprise
It is such a huge surprise finding out if your having a boy or girl. Did you ever think why not share that surprise with all your friends and family at the same time? You now can! Have your doctor write on a piece of paper what your having and take it to a local bakery. There they can either dye the cake to the color of child your having or fill it with colored icing! This way when you cut into the cake everyone will find out at the same time whether your having a boy or a girl or in some cases both! We call this the Baby surprise cake!
Amazing Wedding Cakes – TV Show
I’m happy to say that I actually like this show. It shows how to make certain cakes and gives tips on how to make your cakes look better. This show is for the decorator who does not know everything but is trying to. This season the network has different bakeries featured and hopefully they wjust as good as last seasons ones were.
Pea Pod Cake
Flip Flop Cake
Just one shoe, where is the other one?
New York Yankees Cake
Be careful when adding a marbilized fondant ball border to your cakes. On this cake the New York Yankees logo is low and the border could almost obscure it. You can always add your border first than add your decorations.
Graduation Cap Cake
Wedding Dots Cake
When adding color to a wedding cake, always remember that the color should be spread out evenly over the tiers. On this cake the bottom two tiers have color, but it just looks like the decorator forgot to put color on the top tier. Since this cake has a completely white top tier it looks unfinished and when customers look at this cake they will think so to.
Make My Cake Special
With all of the TV shows on today about cakes we are into everything specialty. Everyone who comes into my bakery, wants something different from the normal supermarket cake. Luckily for them I can supply it. I can do anything if the customer is willing to pay it, most times they are not. So I offer things such as small fondant or piped 3D figures on their cakes. If they get a drawing (since I do it in airbrush) I can accent it with colored icing to make certain things stand out. This way people are not getting the same cake as they got when they were a child and they did not spend a fortune on their cake.
Topsy Turvy Cake
This is an example of our topsy turvy cake. By all means they are not my favorite cakes to do. I think they were created when a baker screwed up his batch of cakes. He did not want to remake them, so he just iced it as is and called it the topsy turvy cake.
Customers come into the bakery with picture of exactly what they want their cake to look like all the time. We do not match cakes exactly because we do not like to infringe on other people’s work. Also, when we make our cakes we do not square our cake tiers off, we round them.
Here the top tier looks like it is being swallowed up by the bottom tier. I know that is the way some people like their cake to look but not me. However sometimes you just have to do what the boss tells you to! It maybe not have been the look the customer was going for, but we had no complaints. Also the vertical stripes are not straight nor do they even look the same width.
Splenda for Baking
Some people love it, some people hate it, but most people will not notice if you cut your sugar with it. Everyone is looking for that next low calorie sweet treat that taste great. Why not try half splenda half sugar to cut some of those calorie? I bet your guest will not even realize you did it!
Cake fillings
Fruits, jams, jellies, peanut butter, fudge, whatever you can think of usually can be put inside of a cake. Everyone likes a surprise filling inside that pretty white iced cake. How you fill your cake depends on what you are filling it with. I recommend if you are filling you cake to first add a circle of icing to the outer edge of your cake, so nothing leaks out. Some people like to add a entire layer of buttercream in the middle than a thin layer of peanut butter or jam over it. Some people just want a thick layer of fudge or mousse with no icing under it. So it is basically up to you how much of the flavor you would like in the center of your cake on what you do.
